Abstract

Actuality of theme. Professional sports, today accumulate significant sums of money. This sphere is provided by various sources of revenues. One of the key among them is the sale of rights to TV broadcasts of sports matches. The cost of these rights today reaches significant amounts. Despite this, the number of TV companies willing to broadcast sporting events is increasing. So, it is advisable to find out what are the revenues of professional sports organizations from the sale of broadcast rights of their matches and, accordingly, to determine what kinds of sport today is the most interest among TV companies. Purpose: to determine the revenues of leading professional sports organizations from current TV contracts with the media. Methods of research: analysis and generalization of literature and Internet data, comparative method. Results. It was established that the revenues of professional sports organizations from the sale of broadcast rights by the end of 2018 amounted to a total of 20.1 billion dollars. The highest share in this amount belongs to NFL ($ 6 billion), FIFA ($ 4.8 billion), NBA and English Premier League ($ 2.6 billion). Some other organizations also exceeded the $ 1 billion revenues per year from television (MLB, La League, Bundesligue, UEFA). At the same time there is a tendency for a constant increase of leading professional sports organizations revenues from the mentioned source. Conclusions. The development of professional sports today is directly dependent on television and its demand for the demonstration of a sports spectacle, because it is one of the main sources of its revenues. Revenues of leading professional sports organizations from contracts with the media increase with each subsequent contract. The biggest television demand today is for American football, soccer and basketball, based on the value of NFL, FIFA, NBA and English Premier League media contracts.
