Studying elements of stochastics in 9th grade of new ukrainian school based on the author’s textbook of the integrated course of mathematics

Abstract

The New Ukrainian School (NUS) education reform is aimed at developing competencies in children that will contribute to their further education, as well as their self-realization in future professional activities. The learning process at NUS is organized as follows: model educational programs have been created in all educational fields according to the approved State Education Standards, and textbooks and other teaching aids are created based on these model programs.

The purpose of the article is to highlight the methodological features of studying the elements of stochastics in the 9th grade of the NUS using the author’s methodological aids. According to these aids, the systematic study of the elements of stochastics begins in the 7th grade with the section «Statistical probabilities». There we consider the stages of statistical research, classical and statistical approaches to calculating the probabilities of random events. In the 9th grade, types of statistical indicators and methods of their calculation and geometric approach to calculating the probabilities of random events are considered.

In this work we describe the author’s methodology of studying the elements of stochastics in the 9th grade of NUS, which involves the study of the subsections «Statistical indicators and their types», «Average indicators. Variance and standard deviation», «Geometric approach to the calculation of probabilities. Using polygon area formulas to calculate probabilities».

Approbation of the author’s aids shows that children positively perceive the study of stochastic elements and use them well in their educational activities. Although this topic is new for the 7-9 grades and the methodology for studying it requires further research, we are convinced of the feasibility and prospects of the chosen approach and will continue to use it in the process of teaching mathematics at NUS.
