Abstract
The article presents a comprehensive analysis and systematization of information about high-altitude lakes of glacial origin in the Ukrainian Carpathians. Based on long-term field research and the use of modern geoinformation tools (Google Earth), key morphometric parameters have been verified: water surf ace area, length, width and absolute altitude of the objects located in the Chornohora, Svydovets, Marmarosh and Privododilni Gorgany massifs. Attention has been drawn to, as well as a number of factual errors and terminological inconsistencies repeated in scientific and educational literature have been corrected. In particular, the areas of the largest lakes (Hereshaska, Brebeneskul, Apshynets) have been clarified, the names of similar objects have been clearly distinguished, and incorrect data regarding altitudes and depths have been disproven. Special attention has been given to the classification of lakes by type of basins and their role in the formation of the hydrographic network of the region. The results of the study have practical significance for u pdating the content of school geography education (Grade 8), as well as for organizing educational excursions and ecological tourism. Emphasis is placed on the importance of promoting reliable scientific data to prevent the spread of amateur toponyms and m ythologizing unique high-mountain ecosystems.
