Development of communication skills of children with general speech development through sand therapy

Abstract

The author draws attention to the fact that in modern society the number of children with speech disorders is increasing, which complicates their socialization, education and communication. Traditional methods of speech therapy do not always produce quick and lasting results, so alternative approaches are needed that take into account the peculiarities of children‟s psycho-emotional development. Playing with sand helps children to reduce anxiety, overcome speech barriers and improve communication skills through non-verbal interaction, which gradually turns into speech. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the impact of sand therapy on the development of communication skills in children with generalized underdevelopment of speech. To achieve this goal, theoretical (analysis of scientific literature, synthesis and generalization of theoretical knowledge to develop methodological recommendations) and empirical (observation, pedagogical experiment to determine the level of development of communication skills in children with generalized underdevelopment of speech, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data) methods were used.The practical part contains the results of a study of the effectiveness of sand therapy sessions in the development of communication skills of children with SEN. A series of sand therapy sessions is presented that positively affect the formation of dialogic and monologic speech, enrichment of vocabulary, and development of grammatical correctness of speech. The study argues that regular sand therapy sessions stimulate children's active linguistic expression, promote the development of verbal and non-verbal communication, and improve their overall psycho-emotional state. Practical recommendations for organizing sand therapy classes are presented, and the positive aspects of using this method are described. Sand therapy can be integrated into a comprehensive system of correctional and developmental work, enriching it with new opportunities for speech development and social adaptation of children.
