Public and cultural activities of Andriy Malyshko in the postwar period (1945-1953)

Abstract

The aim of the article. Given the state of research on this issue in the national historiography, we set out to find out the peculiarities of the social and cultural activities of Soviet writers of the Ukrainian SSR in the postwar years, focusing on the works of Andrii Malyshko. The research methodology. To achieve the goal set in the article, the author used generally accepted approaches, principles and methods of scientific knowledge: analysis of documentary sources and newspaper publications, their subsequent synthesis, comparison of authorial approaches of individual researchers, systematisation and generalisation of the information obtained, which made it possible to reveal the essence and peculiarities of social and cultural activities of Soviet writers of the Ukrainian SSR in the postwar years, and in particular Andrii Malyshko. The authors of the article use materials from newspaper publications of the Soviet era (‘Literary Newspaper’). Scientific novelty. Based on the study of a large number of documentary sources, the authors of the article analyse the peculiarities of the work of the creative intelligentsia of the Ukrainian SSR in the period 1945-1953 through the prism of the social and cultural activities of the Ukrainian Soviet writer Andriy Malyshko. Conclusions. In the postwar period, the creative intelligentsia was brought under the control of Joseph Stalin's totalitarian regime. The achievements that artists had gained during the Second World War were lost. Writers had to be active in the life of the republic in order to fulfil the tasks set by the Union of Soviet Writers of Ukraine and the Communist Party of Ukraine. They, including Andriy Malyshko, took an active part in rallies, meetings with readers and labour collectives, and creative intellectuals on political and cultural issues. On the pages of their works, the writers glorified the regime of Joseph Stalin, supported the foreign and domestic policies of the Soviet government during various events and conferences of peace supporters.
