During the last ten years education in England has been subject to intense accountability, the
implementation of National Curriculum and the introduction of a national programme.
"The task of preparation to teach is really a task of becoming a teacher a process that
engages us continually throughout our professional life", - quote Karen L. Johnston (1). The
initial stage of preparation of teachers is the responsibility of Colleges and Universities and
the local schools they support. The next stage, to insure a successful transition into the
classroom-is the induction period. This is a period and process requiring individual attention
by experienced teaching professionals together with the community support of the
professional societies. Teachers continue to develop and refine their skills, building their
knowledge, increase their professional stature and developing their leadership through
professional development programs offered by Universities and professional societies. There
is not only a preparation of teachers when they are undergraduates, but as a” community” in
England. This is a model of life-long education, which is going throughout the early, middle
and late stages of their careers.
