COMMUNITY COLLEGES IN THE USA

Abstract

The author investigates the two-year community college system in the United States.
Community colleges in the USA correspond to our technical schools and colleges. Currently, these
educational institutions make up one-third of the American high school system. They are the most dynamic
part of higher education in the country.
The college system development is ensured by close cooperation of all participants of this process
such as educational institutions, companies, enterprises, local and regional authorities. Local colleges play a
key role in hiring school graduates. These educational institutions are important links between high school
and universities. Community colleges also offer preparatory technical courses, apprenticeships, cooperative
education and practical training. Close cooperation with employers, local community and labor
organizations are significant in this process. Colleges are flexible and timely responding to the demands of
regional producers, make necessary changes to curricula if it is necessary. They interact with specialists and
the economic development of the region. Teachers of educational institutions show creativity and flexibility
and provide high-quality and inexpensive training. Also advanced training courses for employees and
organizations are provided, including courses in mathematics, general literacy, interpersonal
communication techniques. Each college has lecturers in the field of industrial specialization, which not only
can teach company employees, but also know the needs of the local labor market.
