As the result of the analysis of scientific and educational research the essence of the concept of «natural-scientific competence of ecologist» as an integral characteristic of skills of the specialist that reflecting the level of basic naturalscientific knowledge, the natural-scientific ideology, the environmentally-appropriate values, the experience of cognitive and practical activities that are sufficient to carry out professional activities is specified in the article. The structure of natural-scientific competence is grounded and its component parts are analyzed. There are cognitive (a complex of knowledge, its strength and awareness), activity (a set of skills to use natural-scientific knowledge for practical solving professional tasks, an ability to self-education), motivational (a set of motives that encourages students to study natural-scientific disciplines and the environmental practice) and personal (a complex of individual psychological qualities and abilities that are important for both: the future ecologists and for a modern specialist in general).
