Abstract

Alongside with the development of technological and electronic innovations the work of a
seafarer turned out to be a system with complex automated processes tied with multilevel connections at both humanmachine and human-human modes. The article is devoted to the issue of combination of the whole set of simulators in
the process of seafarers’ education and training, including both electronic simulation and reality based simulation on
the elements of vessel’s equipment and constructions. This combination will ensure functional and psychological
readiness of the future crewmembers to perform their duties onboard. There is presented the description of
educational and training complex of Kherson State Maritime Academy involved in cadets’ training, that incorporates simulators of electronic cartography and navigation, full-mission bridges, electronic simulators of dynamic positioning,
radio-compasses, sonic depth finders, engine room simulator visualizing systems and processes as well as real
equipment for training (boats, rafts, fire-ground, mooring equipment etc).
Special attention is paid to the project “Virtual Reality Vessel”, intended for system multilevel training of
future seafarers from simple operation and performing single duties and processes to system overall evaluation of
crewmembers actions in extreme conditions making use of the whole set of the educational and training complex
simultaneously and taking into account the requirements of the shipping industry. The project will allow enhancing
flexibility of seafarers’ training from the point of view of its adjusting to the needs of the industry and taking into
account the most common emergencies and accidents in the sea to prevent them.
