Abstract

The article substantiates the need to constantly improve the level of professional competence of
employees in the course of work. Therefore, economically developed countries are moving to a new level of development,
defined as a "knowledge society". The development of a knowledge society, in contrast to the information society, which is
based on modern technologies, implies the improvement of the system of education and training during life.
The analysis of the international experience shows that the problem of systematic improvement of the level of
professional competence and the general cultural level of the personality is important and urgent, since there is a social
order for workers of new type who possess systematic, non-standard and strategic thinking. The results of a survey of
experts-economists of the machine-building complex on the conditions of implementation of lifelong learning principles
are analyzed. It is determined that the solution of this problem involves a number of stages: improving the regulatory
regulation of the lifelong learning system, modeling the process of increasing the level of professional competence of
employees, taking into account the peculiarities of the work activity of each group of employees in this field, identifying
ways to develop their professional competence and providing motivation to constantly improve its level.
