NATURAL AND SCIENTIFIC TRAINING OF FUTURE PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS MEANS OF STEAM EDUCATION

The article reveals the peculiarities of natural and scientific training of future teachers of primary
school in pedagogical institutions of higher education. The study subjects which belong to the natural sciences cycle
are determined, namely: earth science, botany, zoology, biology, natural sciences, methods of teaching natural
science, principles of ecology and others. We present STEAM education (acronym Science, Technology, Engineering,
Art, Mathematics – natural sciences, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) as an effective means of natural and
scientific training of future educators. The value of STEAM education is that it organically helps to combine all the
disciplines of the natural cycle, with the help of complex tasks, contributes to the formation of a coherent picture of the
world by future educators. STEAM-education expands the range of forms, methods, techniques of studying natural
sciences, promotes the development of logical thinking, creativity, and stimulates students to search activity.
We were presented with a plan of laboratory lessons, developed on the technologies STEAM-education. We
presented the results of the survey among teachers of the pre-school and elementary education department of the
Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University named after Mikhail Kotsiubynsky. The results of our study indicate that STEAM
education is an effective innovative means of organizing the study of natural sciences in a higher education institution.
