USE OF ART TECHNOLOGIES IN WORK WITH CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

Abstract

The article reveals the possibilities of art-therapeutic methods and techniques for working with
children with special educational needs (SEN). The methodological reasoning of the concept of art therapy as an
innovative technology of social and pedagogical activity with children is being considered, interdisciplinary
ideas for transformation of artistic therapeutic practice in the use of art and artistic communication that are aimed
at optimising subjective and objective conditions of socialisation of children with developmental problems are
being revealed. The analysis of the basic concept of "art therapy" in various areas of its use is being performed,
the main methodological problems and ways to solve them in the development of artistic therapeutic
technologies in social and pedagogical activities with children are being considered.
The article summaries details on the use of art-therapeutic techniques when working with children with SEN that
provide an opportunity to fully study the child's life values and personal interests, his/her personality and mood
through unaccented observations of the child during the direct work. It is noted that art-therapeutic activity
combines developmental, educational and corrective influences, which provides ample opportunities for
establishing trusting relationships with the child, which contributes to his/her further socialisation.
Various methods are being offered to successfully involve children in creative activities. Emphasis is being put
on the importance of selecting art-therapeutic techniques taking into account the capabilities of every child, so
that any effort during the creative work is interesting and enjoyable for him/her. The importance of including
children with SEN in active creative activities for their successful socialization is being noted.
Particular attention is being paid to the use of isotherapy, music therapy, game therapy, fairy tale therapy in
education of children with special educational needs. It is proved that the use of these types of art therapy when
working with such children is effective.
